Business Coaching – You Are Not Alone, Anymore!

In recently posted blogs, I have tried to define the role of a marketing consultant and to describe some of the situations that we regularly encounter. As important as it is to understand the process it is even more important to understand the purpose. My primary focus is to provide an adequate level of support for the business operator helping that individual achieve success in their entrepreneurial endeavors. Coaching, in my opinion, is the ultimate service that any consultant can provide. It is the organic meat and potatoes of consulting services because it is an enabling process that transfers practical ability, knowledge and experience between the advisor and client. It is the way we plant seeds that will provide effective, long term durable benefits.

What Is Marketing? I Am So Pleased That You Asked!

Columnist Rick Spence, in a piece published in the Financial Post of November 2nd, starts by asking “What is Marketing?”. I am glad that he did present the question because for the longest time I have also wanted to post an answer in my own words. I have always feared that if I attempted to do so I will end up editing chapters instead of paragraphs. Perhaps, if I had been satisfied with Mr. Spence’s definition then I would not be commenting but I feel that he left his readership longing for yet, a more clear cut understanding of what marketing really means.

Blogging 101

I have to admit that I never imagined myself as the blogger type. So, what am I doing? Blogging is the “in-thing”, a part of a global movement that has permeated main stream communications in social as well as business sectors. Everyone is in touch with everybody else whether you know people or not you are now connected. Whether it is through blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin or I would imagine dozens of other networking facilities, someone wants to be your friend and invites you to be part of their network.

No one seems to remember what it was like once upon a time when you either waited for the phone to ring or you had to pick it up and make that dire “cold call” to attract interest to what you were doing. Today everyone has access to the world and the world has, often irrespective to privacy considerations, access to you.
